Quiet time...

Image
We all need it. Sometimes life gets hectic, and we have to prioritize demands on our time. For me, it's a hard lesson I have been forced to learn again and again, this time I will simply let go and give in. So this week, instead of a lengthy post, I am foregoing that in favor of a little quiet time. I hope u all are doin well this week, and don't forget to take a little time for yourself when u need it. A Note on Gullveig and the Aesir/Vanir War...

If I read one more retelling of the Vanir/Aesir war that states Gullveig was killed because she talked incessantly of gold, I am gonna vomit. This is An ASSUMPTION with no basis in the original text, based solely on modern translations of Gullveig as gold-lust. SPECULATIVE translations for clarity sake, with about fifty alternate translative possibilities. If one is going to retell a story from the Lore, please stick to the facts. Where does this need to fabricate a reason come from? In my opinion, it comes from modern desire by Asatruar to justify the actions of the Aesir in this instance. As a Vanatru, it is a sore spot for me. If I am going to retell a story from the Lore, I am not going to fabricate parts of the story to portray the Aesir in a negative light. If one of the Vanir act in a manner I find no explanation for, I accept this, it does not change my ability to have faith in them. The need for our gods to be perfect is a hold on from monotheism which has no place in heathe...

Quartz: Quick and Simple Magical Uses

Image
Quartz, usually the clear variety, is one of the most well known and often incorporated magical gems in modern paganism. It was used extensively throughout history as well. Most of the time, we think of quartz and envision the clear variety, though in reality most of the well known semi precious gems, such as amethyst,   tiger's eye, carnelian, citrine, etc. are all different varieties of quartz crystal. For clarity and brevity, this post is about Clear quartz in particular. Make sure your crystal ball really is crystal! Clear quartz has been called the universal power stone throughout the ages, due to it's ability to hold and transmit a wide variety of spiritual and magical energies. It is found all over the world, and this also makes it affordable, which is a plus for practitioners as well. One of the best things about working with clear quartz is that it can be charged for a particular purpose, and once this purpose is done it can be cleansed and recharged again. This ...

Pilates and Pain Relief

Image
This isn't a pagan post per say, but rather a personal one. I wanted to post a short blurb about something that has helped me find pain relief when everything else failed. That something is pilates. I was involved in a car accident at the age of about 14 which unbeknownst to me at the time resulted in significant deterioration of one of my lower spinal disks. Being overweight never helped the matter, and as a result the injury never truly healed. I never had significant problems with it until I began working in my early twenties. I loved my job as a baker, but the labor involved resulted in me having numerous back injuries which after about four years led me to quit. During those four years, I sprained my back and was crippled for weeks on numerous occasions. It became normal for me to sprained my back about three times a year. After quitting the job, I did not sprain my back again for about a year, but I lived with constant daily back pain. It did not respond to anything, be...

Pagans and Purity: Raising Responsible Children

Image
Pagans and Purity? For the uninformed, the linking of these two words might seem laughable. There is plenty of assumption from both non pagans and pagans alike about the nature of purity and its value to the pagan individual. Those who would seek to demean pagans often portray paganism as immoral, sexually deviant, and sinful. We have all heard sensationalized media and read overblown stories about pagans being linked to any and all kinds of deviant behavior. Most of us who have engaged on pagan forums at some point or another been approached by creeptastic individuals claiming some secret spiritual tradition or knowledge which we can only attain by engaging sexually with them. Being a pagan and parent, we often tread a fine line between seeking to avoid culturally common sexual repression taught by mainstream religion while also avoiding promoting an attitude of sexual freedom that encroaches on social responsibility. For me, sexuality is an important part of my identity, and I f...
