eXpectation versus Reality: Take it easy on yourself

Image
Yes, I cheated a bit on the X topic, but really how many words are relevant to paganism that start with X? Not many in my path anyway. This post is about what is going on in my own life and I'm sure those of many others at this time of year. I always get a little *twitchy during the holiday season because it always seems like so much culminates at this time of year. It is a time of high demand for most of us in the western world. School finals, increased demands at work, lots of social activities and demands. Top that off with our spiritual desires of creating a holiday with meaning for ourselves, not to mention combining that with more mainstream holiday practices which are still the primary concern for friends and family.  I often am hard on myself at this time simply because I am just not able to combine it all and still focus primarily on my own pagan path. At the mo I have been feeling guilty for not working a much with the gods, as well as a lack of posting here on my we...

The Words of Women: A Lost and Found Art

Image
The words of women are powerful indeed. In my opinion, the ability of women to exert control in society by our inborn powers of intuition and speech has been for centuries, a sadly lost art. It would take a lifetime to compose a history of how the simple, plainspoken words of women have changed the course of history. Even in the postmodern age, I am often saddened by the sight of so many of my fellow female brethren who don't exert this power fully, who live unfulfilled in unsatisfactory lives, careers, and relationships, simple because it is still the status quo. Of course we can't deny how much women's rights have improved over the past century and the myriad instances of women across the globe who are finding their voice again and changing this world for the better. But there is still a long way to go and in my experience, living in rural America, the form of oppression may have changed, but the essence of control has not. Now before I get going I would like to say tha...

Freyja's Cats Book Giveaway! Enter now!

Image
Hi all!  I have decided to do another little giveaway for everyone this month! In order to share some love and clear up some space on my books shelves for new acquisitions. I called this the Freyja's Cats giveaway because of the pendant necklace I am giving away as part of the prize. I made this necklace a few months ago with the intention to sell but loved it so much I held onto it. However I have yet to wear it and so decided it would fit well with this giveaway as an added bonus! The necklace has a very long chain, around 30+ inches, so it can be slipped easily over the head without the fuss of a clasp. Image is one inch square, all antique bronze finish including chain and claw charm. The Books being Given Are as Follows HOW TO see and read the Aura by Ted Andrews SPIRIT GUIDES and ANGEL GUARDIANS by Richard Webster SEXUAL ECSTASY and the DIVINE by Yasmine Galenorn 13 LESSONS for PLEASING the DIVINE by Lady Raya The COMPLETE BOOK of ASTROL...

What is a WIGHT?

Image
Anyone who is aquainted with heathenry and many other cultural traditions of Old Europe will inevitable come across the term "wight" in their studies. It is another one of those ambiguous terms which was used in many ways, in many periods, and many cultures throughout the continent and islands of Northern Europe. The term is specifically a Middle English word, in its modern spelling and context, yet was derived from other similar word forms of an earlier time period. In it's simplest definition, wight is simple a term which means "being" or "creature." The term wight is simply a denotation of a being which has consciousness. Which means it can be used to describe any being from spirits, ancestors, humans, little people, nature spirits, alfs and fae folk, among others. In folklore as well as modern pagan revival traditions, the term wight is most often used to refer to nature spirits or little people. It us also at times used to refer to the spir...
