Midsummer Magic Blog Giveaway!!!!!

Image
Yes, I know technically Midsummer itself has past, but still. I been planning this giveaway for awhile now and  I guess it is time I get down to it already! I have been doing so much craft hoarding in recent months, to be honest I am running out of space to keep my creations! So I figured what better way to spread some love to my fellow heathens and pagans than to have a little giveaway. =) So what am I giving away you ask? Well all the items pictured in the moderately crap quality photo above! The whole package includes... One new copy of the Signet Classic Edition of Beowulf, translated by Burton Raffel One small wood box, which I stained and painted with a small vine and hammer, and also added a couple metal spirals to the top. It has been lightly  sealed with a very thin modge podge coat, which kept the wood texture yet gave a dull sheen to the wood itself. It has hinges and invisible magnetic closure. If desired, I would be happy to woodburn the small space at th...

Misconceptions about Vanatru: What it is and what it isn't

Image
Not long ago I wrote and shared a personal essay with the Norse Women group I am a part of, and it was well received, so I thought I would share it here on the blogosphere. The article is called "What is Vanatru" but I found that it was much easier to address that question by speaking more about what it ISN'T, rather than what it is definitively. There are several misconceptions about the Vanic way in both pagan and heathen circles, and I felt approaching the subject from this point of view helped to make the definition more understandable for those who are unfamiliar with the practice. I hope you all enjoy! What is Vanatru?                                           Vanatru is a modern day revival of Germanic paganism which focuses almost exclusively of the Vanir Gods of the Norse pantheon. It is comparable to the modern revival of Aesir focused heathenry called Asatru. The wor...

Loki Rape? Traveling the Worlds and our Encounters

Image
Loki by Thalia Took I was recently directed to a post about a former Lokeans personal experience which has been stirring up some controversy in heathen circles, especially due to the ongoing debate between the Troth and Lokeans who feel they are not being given a fair representation within these organizations. This post really hit home for me due to some of my own experiences, especially some fairly recent ones, that I feel are good jumping off points for discussing our interactions with those outside of Midgard, and the dangers we can encounter. The original post can be read here at  Burnt Bridges . To concisely summarize (I recommend reading it for yourself), this individual was a longtime Lokean. They describe themselves as extremely dedicated to him in many ways. Yet recently this individual's partner was sexually and physically assaulted in a dream by Loki. This experience was so intense and real for the victim that it has left many scars. As a result of this ...

Limiting Beliefs: Letting Go for Life, Love, and Learning

Image
I had forgotten exactly which letter we were on this week for the Pagan Blog Project, so I scurried over to the Facebook group to find out. I saw that the letter L was this week's post, and the term limiting beliefs popped into my head right off the bat. The presence of limiting beliefs is something we all face at some point in our lives, in pretty much every aspect of them. Mine is no different, in fact I have struggled with many of these in my public and personal life. What is a limiting belief? In simplest terms, a limiting belief is a belief that serves as a filter for our behavior. Limiting beliefs are a part of human nature, and serve an important purpose in our survival. For example, as a child, we pick up a knife incorrectly, and are cut by a sharp blade. We see that it has an negative effect on our well being. We form the limiting belief that a knife can harm us if handled incorrectly, and this in turn leads us to change our behavior so that we do not make the mis...

Nine Worlds of the Senses

Image
The following is a simple graphic I created today for my personal reference that I thought I would share. I call it the Nine Worlds of the Senses, basically it is my own interpretation of the symbolic correspondences between each of the Nine Worlds and the physical and intuitive senses we possess. The traditional five sense correspondences I took from information contained in the Witchdom of the Tru by Edred Thorrson, the alternate worlds I created my own subjective correspondences. Nine Worlds of the Senses I have been working on this as well as some path working systems which are focused on the Vanic path for a book of Vanatru that I have begun working on in recent months. I stumbled across some of these ideas and have added to them, though this is still in the earliest stages. I am excited about it! Anywho, I hope you enjoy the graphic, and that is sparks your train of thought in general. In Frith Cena

Keeping it Simple: A Vanic home cleansing

Image
As I write this post, the atmosphere is one of peace. The lights are dim, candles flicker, and simmering herbs scent the air with hints of sage and mint. I decided I must write this post now, as both a communication as well as a personal record. Smudging The best types of magic, in my experience, are those which are unplanned. Spawned by growing need, not knowing why, a thought forms in the mind. An idea which addresses our needs. It takes shape in our mind. We think of what is on hand and realize that the simple ingredients we call mundane, are indeed as full of energy as we ourselves are. I have felt a sense of disquiet lately. There are many reasons for this, a stressful year, recovery from surgery, releasing the pressures of  constant mental activity during the short summer break from my studies. Being a mother and facing the pain of my daughter's start in this life, and hardest of all, missing the one man left in this world who has the power to make me feel secure. ...
