Visions of Vanaheim! +1 knowledge aquired!


So I had to share cause Im super stoked! Today I finally aquired a book I have been dying to read for nearly two years now. The Book is "Visions of Vanaheim" by Svartesol. Many Vanatruar that I know have recommended it to me since I found Freyja, for sheer amount of information it contains. It rings in at over five hundred pages.

I am eager to see what the fuss is all about, and intend to discuss the contents I find relevant and share with you all in the coming months.

I also read something interesting in it already. The first essay serves as an intro to Vanic practice, and discussed the possible linkage of the Wanes or Vanir to Anglo Saxon faiths more closely than Germanic and Scandinavian  traditions. I find this a bit questionable but think I will be looking into this issue more deeply. I never thought that I had any blood connection to the Gods, but I do have some ancestors direct from Britain. I am defo interested in finding out more, as my knowledge of Germanic heathenry is much more extensive at the current time than my Anglo-Saxon knowledge base.

Anywho, that's my news for today. I had to share cause I'm just so damn excited! ;p

    I LOVE Visions of Vanaheim! There's a lot of UPG in there that I don't necessarily agree with, but there are things in the book that really struck a chord with me.

    Yea same here, I've read a couple hundred pages so far and some of the UPG I haven't agreed with, but the sheer amount of information and quality is really good. I have defo learned some things I hadn't known before. :)

The Paradox of Open Mindedness

I myself am not immune to it's use, because it implies something that I feel is positive, in moderation. Going Heathen: A guide for transitioners

I wanted to write this post from the standpoint of someone who found heathenry while practicing a pagan/wiccan faith, to give those unfamiliar with the Norse viewpoint some tips and pointers in the process of deciding if heathenry might be  a path you are interested in. As most know, their is much eclecticism in the faith of Vanatru, as well as more universalist Asatru, so some of these options are inherently more friendly to those who are transitioning from another pagan path to this one. Heathenry is not a path unfriendly to outsiders in the general sense, unless one is a hard core reconstructionist or traditionalist, and today's mainstream heathen community does include this, but such exclusionary views represent the minority, rather than the majority in my experience.
