Galaxy Tarot for Android: A short review

Galaxy Tarot Home Page
I'm always looking for handy apps on my androids which are pagan oriented. One that has eluded me for some time has been a usable and functional tarot reading app. I came across Galaxy Tarot last week and decided to give it a try on the free version. You can find app on Google Play HERE OR on the Amazon App Market HERE.

I've tried several tarot apps before and this one is my favorite so far, though its not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The graphics could be cleaner. There are only three or four spreads available on the free version. It did however function remarkably well on my Android 2.3 mini tab, which is saying something.

To make it easy, I will list some pros and cons for the app.

PROS:

  • Very simple uncluttered interface
  • ads are included but very small, just a little footer at the bottom
  • Traditional Rider-Waite deck design
  • option to draw single card as well as use spreads
  • option to shuffle and pick cards from the deck
  • When clicking cards, keywords are given with option to view card meaning
  • Card meanings are concise and short, derived from traditional meanings given with the decks
  • Includes an "encyclopedia" which can be used to choose and access the information for each individual card without drawing a card or using a spread, could be helpful for tarot readers in a pinch
  • Quite accurate in my case, both for single draws and spreads. The relationship spread was incredibly accurate.
  • easy to access, allows me to get back into tarot reading without the hassle of taking out the deck, cleansing, charging, etc.
CONS
  • Visual Design looks a bit cheesy and outdated
  • Not enough spreads, but this is to be expected on the free version
  • No ability to personalize or create your own spreads
  • No way to know if the shuffling or choosing of cards is for show or actually has an impact on the reading
Some Screenshots from Galaxy Tarot

In short, I like the app...LIKE not LOVE. It will be handy for me to refresh my knowledge and start reading again. Beyond that, its probably not going to change anyone's life. In some screenshots of the pro app I have seen, it looks as if their is an expanded amount of information available such as the ability to access guides to symbols, zodiac information, and a variety of other card correspondences which would defo add to the apps usefulness and appeal for serious tarot readers. I may have to try it out and see how much the pro version will set me back.

FINAL GRADE: B-

  1. I have the Galaxy Runes app, which I grabbed one day when I wanted to do readings but realized I did not have my runes with me. Not had much of a chance to use it but the little I have so far has been satisfactory.

  3. Hi! Thank you so much for reviewing our app. Just f.y.i. we've released a significant update to the app, which improves not only the appearance, but also the interpretations. The link above will take you to it!

Any, yes, shuffling and choosing cards is really happening! It's not just for show.

In our next update, in early 2014, we'll be adding more spreads! We listen :D

Thanks again! Shonna @ Galaxy Tone
