Techno Witchery: a few pagan app reviews

My name is Cena...and I'm an Appoholic...Yes, since I had a small windfall a few months ago I ventured into the world of tablet computers, on a modest budget and purchased the small and affordable Coby Kyros 4G, an  Android based tab that runs on an older version of the Android framework, 2.3.

Now I have to say here that coming in at around a hundred fifty odd dollars was a selling point, and I could have benefited from more research on the devices capabilities. But for someone with basic computer knowledge and a bit of risky behavior can potentially make this device a whole lot better. After being highly dissapointed with it at first, I decided to put my amateur programming skills to the test and was able to make some changes to the firmware and the Android system which opened the device up to much more possibility. And now I am very pleased with the tab, as it is capable of almost anything I need. These changes also I would say took an entire five minutes to complete with an sd card and my laptop. So really by doing this my self I saved about a couple hundred dollars over what it would have taken to purchase a similar tab, but anyway, on to the apps.

The first interesting app I found was the Android PaganCalender app, which is available in both free and pro versions here Pagan Calender Android App

I haven"t tried the pro version mainly because while I found the free version interesting, I didn't really see how a pro version could have any more useful features. The app itself is fairly straightforward and a bit old fashioned, very simple. It includes many holidays and pagan holy days, including a wealth of heathen holidays. So my verdict is it's free, give it a spin if you have a droid device. GRADE = C+

Another useful app I like is called Moon Phase Pro, available for Android Moon Phase Pro Android App

The visual of the moon is clear and stunning, it tracks your location to give the moon phases and information for you wherever you go, and includes a calendar of months with visual graphics for each day showing the moon phase. Great app, love it. My only complaint is that if your tab doesn't have gps, you cant set the location manually. But all in all a wonderful app, worth the .99 cents. GRADE= A-

One app I found recently which I really like is called White Witch  White Witch App

This app is probably my fave so far, it includes sections with links to articles, and linked articles from several pagan news sites, including Witchvox and The Wild Hunt. Also includes a twitter stream which displays various twitter messages, updated regularly which contain pagan and wiccan content. Several other features such as facebook, sharing, and some other areas I can't remember at the moment. Anyway, I recommend this for any pagan or wiccan or heathen. GRADE= Solid A.

I think that's enough for now, but I promise to let you know if I find anymore interesting and relevant apps, believe me the pagan ones are few and far between. Hope that as time goes on, more apps will be developed, since personally I am an addict...lol.

In Frith,
Cena
