Apologies for the utter lack of attention...


Just wanted to apologize, I haven't been posting much here the past week or so. It has been an exceptionally tough week, but things are looking up now.
I just started my first courses from the University of Oklahoma this week, which is the beginning of a life long dream for me. But the road to dreams begins with a few potholes obviously, on Weds. I had to take a road trip to the college to collect my student loan money, which of course was late. I had to buy my books the week before out of my own pocket, even though the money was supposed to be there two weeks ago! Sadly my mother and I are not the best navigators. Even with google directions we managed to become lost within a block of the building we needed to get to...lost for forty five minutes...taking a wrong turn into a multi story parking garage...Curse you Google maps!!!!!
I returned home only to find that apparently the University of Oklahoma is not a reliable institution for check cashing purposes...(are you serious?!)...the bank tried to assure me that I could use the money if I deposited the check there...after a SEVEN day wait for the check to clear. So I told them they were certainly fucking insane. I finally was able to get the check cashed at Check n Go, of course after paying an exorbitant fee to do so to the tune of a hundred plus dineros. LIVID...
A few days later I had a mental breakdown for the day, which included hours upon hours of weepiness and much difficulty not beating my dogs to death when I found a spot on the carpet...suffice to say I have some personal issues people...not worth getting into.
But there is a plus side to everything...even on the worst days I find that I still have the love of a beautiful little girl who likes to cuddle. As well as the love of a A-plus Irish gentleman who as usual, remains unfazed in the face of every disaster, both real and hormonal...not to mention that beautiful thick accent...stopping now.
Anyway, I will stop there before I embarrass my self anymore, just wanted to assure everyone that I will return soon, and with some actually relevant content. lol

The Paradox of Open Mindedness

Dualism at it's most sentimental and least truthful... One of the catch all phrases of modern paganism is OPEN MINDEDNESS. I myself am not immune to it's use, because it implies something that I feel is positive, in moderation. This post is about what happens when Open Mindedness becomes something less positive, and in some cases transforms itself into it's exact opposite. “Beware: open-mindedness will often say, 'Everything is permissible except a sharp opinion.”  ― Criss Jami Positive open mindedness needs a heavy dose of discretion. Going Heathen: A guide for transitioners

I wanted to write this post from the standpoint of someone who found heathenry while practicing a pagan/wiccan faith, to give those unfamiliar with the Norse viewpoint some tips and pointers in the process of deciding if heathenry might be  a path you are interested in. As most know, their is much eclecticism in the faith of Vanatru, as well as more universalist Asatru, so some of these options are inherently more friendly to those who are transitioning from another pagan path to this one. Heathenry is not a path unfriendly to outsiders in the general sense, unless one is a hard core reconstructionist or traditionalist, and today's mainstream heathen community does include this, but such exclusionary views represent the minority, rather than the majority in my experience.
